Cute DIY projects to create your own birthday invitation card

Making a birthday invitation by hand, step by step

Before hanging balloons, preparing sweets, or baking the birthday cake… you need to think about the invitation! Discover all our tips for announcing the upcoming party with charm and delicacy.

First step: choose the party theme

It all starts with an idea. Does your child feel closer to a theme based on space, dinosaurs, nature, magic, pirates, the circus, or unicorns? The chosen theme will then guide you in selecting shapes, colors, and words.

At this point, invite your child to participate in creating the invitation cards; it's already a bit like the beginning of their birthday... They can draw, glue, write, or draw freely.

Second step: gather the equipment

Before you start creating the invitation cards, prepare a large table with:

Cardboard sheets, recycled paper, scraps of wrapping paper

A pair of scissors suitable for the age of the person using them

Glue, adhesive tape, or masking tape

     Colored pencils, markers

     Templates, stamps, stickers

    String

     Pretty envelopes

Third step: fold, cut, assemble

The long-awaited moment has arrived: making your invitation cards! To begin:

1: Choose and then fold a sheet of paper in half to form the base of the card.

2: Cut out an original shape (cloud, balloon, rocket…) from colored paper.

3: Stick it on the cover with a short note or a nice drawing.

4: Inside: write the first name of the person celebrating their birthday, the date, the time, the place of the party.

5.
Add a finishing touch: a stamp, a sticker, a small bow.

Fourth step: the detail that makes the difference

To make each invitation unique, why not slip a small drawing or a coded message inside the card? It could also be a mini envelope, a hanging tag, or a secret fold that unfolds like origami… Small creations that don't require much effort, but make the experience unique.

Fifth step: write a simple message

There's no need to look for a complicated formula. The important thing is to write a sincere note to the person who is invited. Here are a few simple ideas:

"I'm waiting for you to celebrate my [age] years!"
"I can't wait to party with you!"
"Come blow out my candles with me!"
"A surprise awaits you..."

Sixth step: handing out or sending the invitations

Once the birthday invitations are finalized, all that's left is to slip them into envelopes. Why not personalize them a little? A stamp, a sticker, a handwritten name… And to add a touch of whimsy, you can include a small bag of candy, a lollipop, or another sweet treat when you hand-deliver the card. A little something to bring a smile even before the big day.

Creating a handmade birthday invitation can be a lovely shared experience. Sometimes you can include a small drawing, a sweet note, or even a Pierrot Gourmand® lollipop . Just enough to keep the guests entertained before the main party.
